Saturday evening a nasty tempered storm blew through our neck of the woods and caused a large deadish pine tree to become very friendly with my house. Sounds amusing....but at the time my 5 cuties and I were less amused.
I myself have used the expression "sheets of rain", but hadn't really seen them until this storm. I couldn't see the neighbor's house for the rain. The children and I were just sitting down to pizza delivery pizza and a relaxing end of the week video when I started to see large pieces of bark fly off trees and fly over the house. Our Internet connection was down from the previous day's storm as was my phone connection. Soooo, I moved into our school room to try to get a radio station to see if this was a tornado. I was just getting ready to move the children to the crawl space when the tree crashed onto the house. Thank God that we weren't in the living room or kitchen whwere we spend most of our time, because that is where the tree landed. The ceilings are cement and they fell in in spots. Anyone under those pieces would have been badly hurt or worse.
We have quite a row to hoe ahead of us with adjustors and contractors and a good deal of inconvenience.....
I would do well to remind myself and mine that we were so blessed no one was hurt. I have this image of my 2 yo little fellow in the bathtub with his 4 other siblings, piece of pizza still clutched in his hand, smiling at me when I returned to the bathroom to comfort and reassure.
I always wanted a skylight in my kitchen. : )
