Happy Thing for today....
My dd 5 has been basking in the doting attention of her two parents for the last few days and being the eldest child in the house while her older brother and sister are away. This is quite a novel thing for her. I was reminded about a little vignette in the book Ten Circles Upon a Pond where the author relates a story about a car ride with her I believe 5 year old daughter. She notices that the child is plastered to the door and there is an acre of bench seat between them. Mom makes inquiries and the daughter replies something along the lines of "I haven't ever been alone with you before." I have to admit this made me a bit sad.
DD has been absolutely SOAKING up the parental attention and I have been mindfully making myself be more patient with her many requests and need for my company even though I thought this little respite from "schooling" her older siblings would equal "Mommy-time" to organize and de-clutter and such. As it turned out...trees falling on our house has sort of put the kaibash on those plans anyway. Perhaps that tree had a greater purpose.
Tonight at bedtime, dd and I were reading our second chapter of Raggedy Ann and Andy in the Deep Deep Woods when I was treated to this:
"Mom."
"Yes dear."
" I have a recipe."
" For what, hon?"
"For a happy day for me. It has a book, a Bridie (four month old sister), and a momma."
Thank you Lord for this opportunity to stop and admire my Petunia. She is a lovely little girl.
